Dr. Fahad bin Abdullah Aldossari, President of the General Authority for Statistics, received Mr. Erki Kilu, Minister of Economy and Industry of the Republic of Estonia, along with Ambassador Maria Belolfas and the accompanying delegation at GASTAT’s headquarters. During the meeting, they reviewed various topics of mutual interest and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the field of statistical work between the two sides.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Fahad Aldossari welcomed the Minister of Economy and Industry of the Republic of Estonia and his accompanying delegation. He provided an overview of GASTAT’s key activities and its efforts in digital transformation, showcasing GASTAT’s main products, which include 70 statistical products, and the development of data collection tools and methodologies. The significant role played by GASTAT in updating the base year for the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) according to chain-linked series, in line with internationally accepted practices among global and statistically advanced references, was also reviewed. In addition, updates to the Real Estate Index and geographic maps were discussed.
Aldossari also highlighted various regional and international projects, mentioning that the General Authority for Statistics was selected to host the sixth United Nations World Data Forum, set to take place in 2026.
For his part, the Minister of Economy and Industry of the Republic of Estonia expressed his gratitude to the President of the General Authority for Statistics for the warm welcome and congratulated GASTAT on its outstanding achievements. He highlighted the strong relations between the two friendly countries and praised the visit by GASTAT delegation to Estonia, along with its positive impact on various areas of cooperation between both sides.
Estonian Ambassador Maria Belolfas also delivered remarks, expressing her appreciation for the visit and commending the strong relations between the two countries, particularly in the economic sector.
It is worth noting that this meeting follows a visit by a delegation from the General Authority for Statistics to the Republic of Estonia last August, during which they met with officials from the Estonian Statistics Office and held meetings with several other officials involved in statistical work.

The General Authority for Statistics announced today the results of Oil and Gas Statistics Publication 2023 for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. According to the publication's results, the total crude oil production in the Kingdom for 2023 decreased by 9.3% compared to 2022, reaching 3.506 million barrels. Meanwhile, the quantity of crude oil exports recorded a decrease of 9.6%, amounting to 2.431 million barrels compared to 2022.

The total production of gasoline in 2023 decreased by 2.6% compared to 2022, with a production quantity of 224 million barrels. Regarding kerosene and jet fuel, there was an increase in production quantity, reaching 57 million barrels, an increase of 2.7% compared to 2022, based on the results.

The total consumption of gasoline in 2023 increased by 1.8% compared to 2022, with a consumption quantity of 186 million barrels. In terms of kerosene and jet fuel, there was also an increase in consumption, reaching 35 million barrels, up by 32.8% compared to 2022, according to the publication.

 

The publication showed a decrease in total fuel oil exports for 2023 by 10.3% compared to 2022, with export quantities amounting to 67 million barrels, while imports increased, totaling 88 million barrels with a growth rate of approximately 25.9%. As for gas/diesel oil, there was a decrease in export quantities, which amounted to 206 million barrels, marking a decline of 15.7% compared to 2022, while imports rose to 33 million barrels, with an increase of 43.8%.

It is noteworthy that the Oil and Gas Statistics Publication covers energy data at the level of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, according to the International Standard International Energy Product Classification (SIEC), with data available in a time series for the period (2010-2023).

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) released today the flash estimates of the real GDP growth rate for Q3 of 2024 on its official website. Accordingly, the real GDP during Q3 of 2024 achieved a growth rate of 2.8% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The flash estimates revealed that oil activities recorded a growth of 0.3% during Q3 of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, while non-oil activities achieved a positive growth rate of 4.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. Additionally, government activities recorded a positive growth rate of 3.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The report's results indicated that the seasonally adjusted real GDP during Q3 of 2024 increased by 0.8% compared to Q2 of 2024.

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) released the Real Estate Price Index for Q3 2024, which reached 2.6% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, following the updated methodology for calculating the Real Estate Price Index in the Kingdom.
GASTAT clarified that the updated methodology for calculating the index will contribute to providing more comprehensive and high-quality data, supporting efforts to develop the real estate sector, and aligning with best statistical practices used in international benchmarks.
In this context, GASTAT attributed the change in the Real Estate Price Index for Q3 2024 to a 1.6% increase in residential property prices. Year-on-year, residential land prices increased by 1.6%, while apartment prices rose by 1.9%, and villa prices grew by 1.5%. In contrast, commercial property prices saw a significant rise of 6.4%, primarily due to a 6.3% increase in commercial land prices. Among various commercial properties, building prices climbed by 8.6%, while exhibition prices fell by 1.1%. On the other hand, the agricultural sector, particularly agricultural land, experienced a decline of 8.7%.
It is worth noting that the Real Estate Price Index Publication is a statistical tool to measure the relative change in real estate prices in Saudi Arabia. It results from electronic registration and documentation processes carried out by the Ministry of Justice, encompassing various variables in real estate transactions, including value, location, area, sector, and property type.

Under the patronage of His Excellency Majid bin Abdullah Alhoqail, Minister of Municipal and Housing Affairs, Dr. Fahad bin Abdullah Aldossari, President of the General Authority for Statistics, participated in a panel discussion titled "The Future of Real Estate: Advanced Management and Data Analysis." This session was held as part of the Global PropTech Summit in the capital, Riyadh, with the presence of a distinguished group of industry experts, investors, real estate developers, and leading global technology companies.
During his participation, Aldossari explained the role of the General Authority for Statistics in developing and enabling digital transformation, which has contributed to diversifying data sources to ensure the quality of statistical products and the comprehensiveness of indicators. These data sources include statistical surveys (field, telephone, and online), the utilization of administrative records, and other data sources such as satellite imagery and geospatial data. This approach has improved the efficiency of statistical operations and contributed to the quicker and more accurate production of high-quality statistical products.
In this context, Aldossari noted that through continuous planning and organizational development, we have successfully improved performance in the development of statistical products and indicators. He emphasized the importance of identifying needs and opportunities within the private sector related to statistical information and data. Furthermore, he highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts between GASTAT and private sector partners, which positively influences the success of joint initiatives. This collaboration supports the ongoing development and transformation of the General Authority for Statistics and takes advantage of advanced statistical programs and products that enhance commercial and investment opportunities in various sectors.
He added that in recent years, the scope of statistical work has expanded significantly, and the statistics sector in the Kingdom has undergone substantial transformations. This has been achieved through initiatives and statistical projects led by the General Authority for Statistics, aimed at producing statistical data and indicators. Additionally, there has been a continuous effort to integrate various data sources using the best data management and governance infrastructures, along with ongoing improvements in mechanisms for sharing statistical data.
It is worth noting that the Global PropTech Summit will take place over two days, October 27-28, 2024. This event serves as an innovative meeting point between technology and the real estate sector, with its themes closely aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 and its objectives related to the development of the real estate sector. The summit emphasizes the importance of establishing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a leading center for modern real estate technology practices by adopting innovative activities in digital fields, data analysis, and virtual technologies for the future of the real estate sector.

 

The General Authority for Statistics announced today that the value of non-oil exports (including re-exports) during August 2024 reached 27.5 billion SAR, compared to 25.6 billion SAR in August 2023, marking an increase of 1.9 billion SAR, or 7.4%, according to the results of the international trade publication for August 2024.

The value of oil exports during August 2024 amounted to 65.3 billion SAR, compared to 77.3 billion SAR in August 2023, representing a decrease of 12.0 billion SAR, or 15.5%.

The results of the publication also showed a decline in merchandise exports during August 2024, which totaled 92.8 billion SAR, compared to 102.9 billion SAR in August 2023, a decrease of 10.1 billion SAR, or 9.8%.

Meanwhile, the value of merchandise imports of the Kingdom during August 2024 was 64.8 billion SAR, compared to 67.4 billion SAR in August 2023, reflecting a decrease of 2.6 billion SAR, or 3.9%.

Dr. Fahad Aldossari, the President of the General Authority for Statistics, met with Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, the CEO of the eGovernment Authority (eGA) in Bahrain, in the capital, Manama, to discuss ways to enhance joint efforts in the statistical sector and opportunities for developing cooperation in statistical data.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the latest developments in statistical work in both countries, as well as the developmental efforts concerning the approved and updated methodologies for statistical products. This includes administrative records and the development and innovation of statistical products that contribute to supporting the development plans in both countries. Additionally, they discussed the mechanism for agreeing on the exchange of expertise in the areas of technical infrastructure of both authorities and several related topics in statistical work.

This meeting is part of a series of international meetings and visits aimed at building bridges of cooperation with statistical offices in the region, focusing on exchanging expertise, sharing experiences, and informing counterpart entities about the progress being made in the statistical sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The 49th meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS) was inaugurated in Manama, chaired by Dr. Fahad Aldossari, the President of the General Authority for Statistics and Chair of the previous meeting of the Board, over a two-day period from October 21 to 22, 2024, with the presence of their excellencies and members of the Board representing the member states.
Dr. Fahad Aldossari expressed, on behalf of the Board members, his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Kingdom of Bahrain for hosting the 49th meeting. He commended the excellent organization and hospitality by the Information and eGovernment Authority (IGA) in the Kingdom of Bahrain, praising the efforts made by the Board members over the past year to implement the Institute's plan in its areas of specialization, which support the statistical offices in the member states and meet their needs in enhancing the capacity and efficiency of human resources. He emphasized the vital role played by the Institute in achieving cooperation among the member states.
Subsequently, Dr. Fahad Aldossari expressed his thanks and appreciation to the member states for the significant cooperation that the General Authority for Statistics received during its presidency of the 48th meeting, wishing the Republic of Tunisia, represented by the National Institute of Statistics, success in chairing the current 49th meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS).

 

Dr. Fahad Aldossari, the President of the General Authority for Statistics, met with Mrs. Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, Director General of (SESRIC) during his visit to the Republic of Turkey. The meeting focused on ways to enhance joint work in the field of statistics and to promote the exchange of expertise between the two parties.

It is noteworthy that this meeting took place on the sidelines of the13th Session of the OIC Statistical Commission (SESRIC), hosted in the Turkish capital, Ankara, with the participation of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Several officials from both sides attended the meeting.

Dr. Fahad Aldossari, the President of the General Authority for Statistics, met with Mr. Erhan Çetinkaya, President of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), in Turkish capital, Ankara. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the 13th Session of the OIC Statistical Commission (SESRIC). During the meeting, they discussed the progress being made in statistical work in both countries and highlighted the key statistical products that are being developed and issued.

In this context, Dr. Fahad Aldossari welcomed the constructive cooperation between the two sides to exchange experiences, transfer knowledge, and enhance joint efforts. Several officials from both sides attended the meeting.

This meeting is part of a series of international meetings and visits with the goal of fostering cooperative relationships to exchange experiences, share best practices, and inform counterpart organizations about the advancements in the statistical sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The annual inflation rate in Saudi Arabia remained stable at 1.7% during September 2024, showing a relative stability on a year-on-year basis. The inflation rate in Saudi Arabia is considered one of the most stable rates, which confirms the strength and resilience of the Saudi economy. It also demonstrates the effectiveness of the economic plans and decisions that the Kingdom has swiftly implemented to address the wave of global inflation and  high prices.  It is noteworthy that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) reflects the changes in prices that consumers pay for a fixed basket of goods and services consisting of 490 items. This basket was selected based on the results of the Household Expenditure and Income Survey conducted in 2018. Prices are collected through field visits to points of sale, and statistics on the Consumer Price Index in the Kingdom are published on a monthly basis.

His Excellency Dr. Fahad Aldossari, President of the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), held a virtual meeting with Ms. Haishan Fu, Chief Statistician of the World Bank, aimed at enhancing partnership and cooperation between the two sides. During the meeting, they reviewed GASTAT's directions towards developing statistical products and discussed international statistical reports issued by the World Bank, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation in various statistical fields. Dr. Fahad Aldossari expressed his gratitude to Ms. Haishan Fu for her commendation of the remarkable progress in statistical work at the national level. He added that exchanging data and statistical indicators with international organizations is one of the strategic pathways within GASTAT's responsibilities, including providing international organizations with statistical data and indicators related to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is worth noting that the World Bank possesses a lot of global development knowledge and expertise and provides many technical assistance programs to most countries of the world in areas in which the Bank has extensive global technical expertise.

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) released today the results of the Industrial Production Index (IPI) for August 2024. IPI increased by 1.0% during August 2024 compared to the same month in the previous year (August 2023), supported by the rise in mining and quarrying activity, manufacturing activity, and electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply activities.  The publication indicated that the index for mining and quarrying activity in August 2024 rose by 0.8% compared to the same month of the previous year (August 2023). Additionally, the index for manufacturing activity in August 2024 increased by 1.1% compared to August 2023. The sub-index for the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning recorded a rise of 4.1%, while the sub-index for water supply, sewerage and waste management and remediation activities decreased of 0.9% compared to August of the previous year. On another note, the index for oil-related activities recorded a decline of 1.4% in August 2024, while the index for non-oil activities achieved an increase of 7.0% compared to August 2023. It is worth mentioning that the General Authority for Statistics issues several statistical products related to the industry, including the Industrial Production Index (IPI), which is an economic indicator that reflects the relative changes and developments in the volume of industrial production. This survey targets industrial establishments engaged in the specified activities, namely mining and quarrying , manufacturing, electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply, as well as water supply, sewage, and waste management activities.

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) indicated that the value of merchandise exports during July 2024 amounted to 94.5 billion SAR, compared to 92.6 billion SAR during July 2023, with an increase of 1.9 billion SAR, or 2.1%.
The value of oil exports during July 2024 amounted to 69.1 billion SAR, compared to 71.3 billion SAR during July 2023, with a decrease of 2.2 billion SAR, or 3.1%, according to the results of the publication.
The value of non-oil exports (including re-exports) during July 2024 amounted to 25.4 billion SAR, compared to 21.3 billion SAR during July 2023, with an increase of 4.1 billion SAR by 19.2% , the results noted.
While the value of the Saudi Arabia's merchandise imports during July 2024 amounted to 75.2 billion SAR, compared to 66.8 billion SAR during July 2023, with a decrease of 8.4 billion SAR, or 12.6%. 

Dr. Fahad Aldossari, the President of the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), headed the delegation from GASTAT participating in the 11th Meeting of the Standing Committee for Statistical Work Affairs held in Muscat, Oman. The meeting aimed to enhance Gulf joint statistical work, support sustainable development plans, and exchange statistical expertise among member states.  The Committee reviewed the implementation of its previous decisions and examined performance reports from the past period. It discussed ways to strengthen cooperation among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to elevate statistical work, keep pace with global developments, and continuously improve mechanisms for exchanging statistical data. The committee also focused on collaboration in sharing expertise and information, supporting programs to raise statistical awareness, and addressing common challenges. GASTAT’s President highlighted the importance of relations among the GCC countries in pushing wider horizons for effective cooperation in the field of information and statistical data. He expressed his appreciation to the committee members for their efforts in consolidating the concepts of statistical work and its role in supporting development plans and national visions for the council's countries. He praised the support that statistical offices receive from the leaders of GCC countries. The Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (“GCC-Stat”) was established to enhance statistical and informational work for national statistical centers and planning agencies, serving as the official source of data, information, and statistics in the member states. The establishment of GCC Stat was approved by the GCC Ministerial Council in September 2011. The Charter was officially endorsed in December 2012 by the GCC Supreme Council (comprised of heads of member states).

 

The General Authority for Statistics released the Editorial Policy for Content Writing and Translation alongside the Numbers Writing Guide, aiming to streamline the creation of statistical content such as publications, reports, and indices. Additionally, these resources aim to disseminate knowledge on linguistic and technical aspects related to statistical content writing. The integration of scientific and technical language aligns with GASTAT's identity and vision. Both guides underwent rigorous scientific review by the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language. The release of the Numbers Writing Guide and Editorial Policy underscores GASTAT's commitment to enhancing statistical practices and providing necessary resources. This initiative includes offering linguistic insights in a user-friendly manner and promoting the use of contemporary scientific terminology in statistical discourse. Furthermore, it aims to convey statistical knowledge seamlessly, catering to the needs of individuals involved in statistical and economic content creation. The Editorial Policy for Content Writing and Translation offers a condensed scientific overview of significant linguistic rules, sourced from traditional linguistic literature, and reformulated for clarity. It comprises three primary chapters: guidelines for content editing and writing in Arabic, instructions for editing and writing press and media materials, and guidelines for translating content from Arabic to English. Individuals interested in the Arabic language can leverage the Numbers Writing Guide and Editorial Policy to enhance their writing across various domains. These resources serve as comprehensive references, not limited to statistical fields, but extending to writing, editing, journalistic practices, and media content creation. This release reaffirms GASTAT's commitment to advancing the statistical sector and ensuring accessibility to data and information in Arabic and English, characterized by simplicity, clarity, and robust scientific foundation.

The President of the General Authority for Statistics(GASTAT) Dr. Fahad Aldossari participated in a panel discussion held as part of the Regional Data and Community Development Forum in Sharjah, UAE. The session included a distinguished group of experts in social development, economists, data specialists, and decision-makers to discuss statistical offices in the age of artificial intelligence. Notable participants in the discussion included Ms. Kersti Kaljulaid, former President of Estonia, Mr. Ali bin Mahboob, former Chair of the UN Statistical Commission, and Mr. Alan Smithson, Co-Founder of MetaVerse.
During his participation in the "Expert Talk" session, Dr. Fahad Aldossari explained that GASTAT has invested in expanding the diversification of data sources by utilizing administrative records available from various entities in both the public and private sectors. He emphasized the importance of expanding strategic partnerships that support this direction, supplemented by satellite data and big data, in addition to the surveys conducted by GASTAT. He affirmed that diversifying data sources enhances their quality and reliability.
In the same context, He stated that focusing on the development of statistical systems aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which prioritizes technological innovation and governance based on organized and unbiased data. He pointed out that Saudi Arabia's investment stems from the belief that technological advancement is not only a means to improve efficiency and accuracy but is also a fundamental pillar for transforming statistical centers into strategic tools that support decision-makers in developing data-driven economic and social policies.
It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia is participating in the Regional Data and Community Development Forum, represented by GASTAT, at the invitation of the Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development which will take place on 9-10 October 2024. The forum aims to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of data in addressing social and environmental issues and to highlight best practices and examples in this field. The forum brings together policymakers, government officials, and private sector representatives along with community development experts, academics, researchers, national statistical offices, and international organizations.

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) released today the results of the Industrial Production Index (IPI) for July 2024. According to the report, the index increased by 1.6% in July 2024 compared to the same month in the previous year, July 2023. This growth was driven by the rise in manufacturing activity, electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supplies, as well as water supply, sewage, waste management, and treatment activities. The report revealed a 4.6% increase in the sub-index for manufacturing activity compared to July of the previous year, while the sub-index for mining and quarrying activity showed a decline of 0.8% in July 2024. The sub-index for electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supplies recorded an 8.2% increase, and the sub-index for water supply, sewage, waste management, and treatment activities rose by 1.1%, compared to July of the previous year. The report indicated that the oil activities index decreased by 1.1% in July 2024, while the non-oil activities index increased by 8.2% compared to the same month of the previous year. It is worth mentioning that the General Authority for Statistics issues several statistical products related to the industry, including the Industrial Production Index (IPI), which is an economic indicator that reflects the relative changes and developments in the volume of industrial production. This index is based on data from the Industrial Production Survey, which is conducted monthly and targets industrial establishments operating in key activities such as mining and quarrying, manufacturing, and electricity and gas supply.

The High-level Group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity-Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLG-PCCB) announced today, Thursday, September 5, 2024 that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the General Authority for Statistics, won the bid to host the United Nations World Data Forum in Riyadh. The decision was made after securing the majority of votes following a review of the proposals from countries competing to host the forum, showcasing their capabilities to host this global event. The announcement of the Kingdom’s win came following a meeting of the HLG-PCCB group responsible for assigning the hosting rights to the candidate countries, during which Dr. Fahad bin Abdullah Aldossari, President of the General Authority for Statistics, presented the Kingdom’s bid. His presentation included an overview of GASTAT’s journey in statistical work, the transformations it has witnessed, the Kingdom's pioneering experience in hosting international events, and its ability to provide all forms of logistical support to achieve the objectives of these events. The proposal also included a suggested main topic for the forum titled “Using the Latest Technologies and Methodologies to Enhance Global Statistical Systems and Enable Sustainable Development”. In this context, Dr. Fahad Aldossari said, “Hosting this leading event by the Kingdom reflects its prominent status among nations, affirming the commitment of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud — may Allah protect them — to support the statistical sector, recognizing the pivotal role statistical data plays in supporting the implementation of comprehensive and sustainable development plans across all fields”. He added, “Winning the bid to host the United Nations World Data Forum 2026 crowns the prominent efforts in the statistical field. It also reflects the significant expansions in statistical work witnessed over recent years, driven by initiatives and projects led by the General Authority for Statistics, aiming to produce accurate and updated statistical data and indicators, through the continuous development of integrating various data sources using the best data management and governance infrastructures”.  It is noteworthy that the international data forum targets the 193 member states of the United Nations. The Kingdom’s win to host the sixth edition of the forum's activities emphasizes its pivotal role in supporting the directions aimed at providing high-quality statistical data and indicators. The forum also involves the participation of international organizations, statistical offices of the UN member states, as well as data scientists and those interested in statistics.

A delegation from the General Authority for Statistics, led by Dr. Fahad bin Abdullah Aldossari , GASTAT President, met with several government officials and private sector representatives in Estonia as part of their visit to the Republic of Estonia. During the meetings, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the statistical field, reviewed the latest developments in statistical practices, and strengthened the exchange of expertise. It is worth noting that this visit is part of a series of reciprocal visits with statistical agencies aimed at fostering cooperation, sharing experiences, and localizing practices that add value to GASTAT’s initiatives. The delegation also aimed to demonstrate the progress in statistical work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is supported by the generous leadership, reflecting its commitment to providing data and statistical indicators that aid in development planning and inform both the local and international community about the advancements occurring in the Kingdom across all sectors.

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) announced today a 10.5% increase in non-oil exports in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the second quarter of 2023. Additionally, national non-oil exports, excluding re-exports, increased by 1.4%, while the value of re-exported goods rose by 39.1% during the same period, according to the International Trade Publication for the second quarter of 2024. The Publication's results revealed a 4.3% rise in non-oil exports, including re-exports, while merchandise exports saw a 0.2% decline in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter in 2023. Imports also decreased by 5.6%, driven by a 3.3% decrease in oil exports. The share of oil exports in total exports fell to 75.0% in the second quarter of 2024, down from 77.4% in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The Publication also reported a 3.0% increase in the Kingdom's imports during the second quarter of 2024. As for the trade balance, the surplus decreased by 6.0% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Compared to the first quarter of 2024, the value of merchandise exports remained stable, while the value of imports decreased by 5.6%. The trade balance surplus increased by 13.2% compared to the first quarter of 2024. Additionally, the International Trade Publication for June 2024 indicated that the value of non-oil exports (including re-exports) reached SAR 21.6 billion in June 2024, compared to SAR 20.1 billion in June 2023, an increase of SAR 1.5 billion, or 7.3%. Meanwhile, the value of oil exports amounted to SAR 66.3 billion in June 2024, compared to SAR 73.2 billion in June 2023, a decrease of SAR 6.8 billion, or 9.3%. The decline in oil exports had the greatest impact on the decrease in merchandise exports. The value of merchandise exports was SAR 87.9 billion in June 2024, compared to SAR 93.3 billion in June 2023, a decrease of SAR 5.4 billion, or 5.8%. In contrast, the value of the Kingdom's merchandise imports was SAR 57.7 billion in June 2024, compared to SAR 60.8 billion in June 2023, a decrease of SAR 3.1 billion, or 5.1%.

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) signed a memorandum of cooperation with Qassim University aimed at enhancing collaboration, improving coordination, and integrating efforts in their respective fields. The agreement also includes joint research initiatives between the two parties. It was signed by Dr. Fahad bin Abdullah Aldossari, President of GASTAT, and Prof. Mohammed bin Fahad Alsharekh, President of Qassim University. The agreement covers several areas, such as collaboration in developing and supporting academic programs focused on statistics, conducting external reviews of curricula, and providing researchers with access to interactive maps for estimating and analyzing statistical data. It also includes cooperation in data sharing, statistical indicators, and the execution of statistical surveys, along with the organization of lectures, seminars, and workshops in statistics and related disciplines. Furthermore, the agreement offers opportunities for cooperative and summer training for university students. The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) invites graduates from the statistics and mathematics departments, along with several other specializations, to join the Saudi Statistician Program. This initiative aims to attract young national talents to develop a distinguished cadre of national specialists in the field of statistics, enabling Saudi youth with expertise in the field of statistics to contribute to GASTAT’s  national role. GASTAT emphasized that this initiative aligns with the ongoing efforts to empower university graduates, enhance their capabilities and skills, and add value to the statistical sector. It aims to build a generation capable of supporting statistical activities and national institutions in both the public and private sectors, recognizing the critical role of the sector in aiding policy and decision makers. In this context, GASTAT outlined several stages for joining the program. These include employing recent graduates to work directly at GASTAT for one year, during which they will receive intensive training in statistical work. This is followed by sponsoring them to pursue a master's degree. The program, open for applications until August 29 of this year, specifies the required specializations: statistics, mathematics, big data and analytics, economics, data science, quantitative methods, and data engineering. According to the General Authority for Statistics, real estate prices in Saudi Arabia increased by 1.7% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter last year. This rise is attributed to a 2.8% increase in residential real estate prices, according to the report published today by the General Authority for Statistics. The report also revealed that residential land prices increased by 2.8% year-on-year due to the significant impact of the residential sector on the rise in real estate prices in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. The residential sector experienced a 2.8% increase in the second quarter of 2024, while prices for residential buildings rose by 0.1%, villas by 0.5%, and houses by 1.4%. Meanwhile, apartment prices saw a 2.9% increase. On the other hand, commercial real estate prices saw a 0.4% decline, influenced by a 0.4% decrease in commercial land prices. Prices for commercial exhibitions dropped by 0.6%, while prices for commercial buildings and centers remained stable in the second quarter of 2024, with no significant changes. In contrast, the agricultural sector experienced a 1.5% increase due to a 1.5% rise in agricultural land prices. The Real Estate Price Index is based on administrative data from the Ministry of Justice concerning real estate transactions. It serves as an essential tool for helping authorities make informed economic and statistical decisions about real estate price trends and future projections. The index encompasses three primary sectors, each with distinct real estate categories: the residential sector (which includes land plots, buildings, villas, apartments, and houses), the commercial sector (which includes land plots, buildings, exhibitions, shops, and commercial centers), and the agricultural sector (which covers only agricultural land).

The General Authority for Statistics released the real GDP Flash Estimates Publication for Q2 of 2024. According to the publication, there was a growth of 4.4% in non-oil activities and 3.6% in government activities, while the real GDP shrank by 0.4% from the Q2 of 2023, the 8.5% drop in oil-related activities was a contributing factor.  In contrast to Q1 of 2024, the seasonally adjusted real GDP increased by 1.4% in Q2 of 2024.

The Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics organized a virtual training workshop to review the experience of the Saudi Census 2022 and to benefit from the General Authority for Statistics' expertise in this field. The two-day workshop was attended by representatives of official statistical agencies from Arab nations. During the workshop, the General Authority for Statistics team gave a summary of the Kingdom's statistical work development program and its main objectives. Additionally, they reviewed the phases of the Saudi Census 2022 project's implementation as well as the statistical approaches and techniques that were applied, including the use of geographic information systems, satellite photos, and geospatial data.

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) published on its official website www.stats.gov.sa on Sunday, June 30, 2024, the Labor Market Publication for the first quarter of 2024. This publication highlights the changes in the labor market following a reassessment of data from the fourth quarter of 2023 based on the Saudi Census 2022. GASTAT reported that the overall unemployment rate, including both Saudis and non-Saudis, remained relatively stable at 3.5%, compared to 3.4% in the last quarter of 2023. Additionally, the unemployment rate for Saudis decreased to 7.6% in Q1 2024 from 7.8% in the previous quarter. The unemployment rate for Saudi females recorded a slight increase to 14.2% in Q1 2024, up from 13.9% in the previous quarter. However, the unemployment rate for Saudi males decreased to 4.2% from 4.6% in the previous quarter. The labor force data for Q1 2024 showed an increase in the labor force participation rate for Saudis, reaching 51.4% compared to 50.4% in the previous quarter, while the rate for the total labor force (including Saudis and non-Saudis) decreased to 66.0% from 67.0% in Q4 2023. The results of the Q1 2024 of the Labor Market Publication also revealed an increase in the labor force participation rate for Saudi females , which reached 35.8% compared to 35.0% in the previous quarter, while for Saudi males, the rate increased to 66.4% from 65.4% in the previous quarter. GASTAT emphasizes that the Labor Market Publication relies on a household survey conducted by GASTAT under the category of social statistics. This survey gathers data through a representative sample of the population from various administrative regions in the Kingdom. By completing an electronic questionnaire with detailed questions, the survey provides estimates and indicators related to the labor force of the population aged 15 and above in Saudi Arabia. This includes estimating the population within and outside the labor force, as well as calculating important labor market indicators such as the unemployment rate, labor force participation rate, and others.

The President of the General Authority for Statistics welcomed the Iraqi statistical delegation led by Dr. Diaa Awad Kazem, President of the Statistics and Geospatial Information Authority in Iraq, to foster mutual cooperation. The meeting, held at GASTAT headquarters in Riyadh, aimed to introduce the Iraqi delegation to Saudi Arabia's statistical expertise, particularly focusing on the Saudi Census 2022. Discussions also revolved around enhancing collaboration in statistical fields and other mutual interests. Dr. Fahad Aldossari greeted the delegation, highlighting the strong relations between the two countries and underlining the exchange of statistical expertise as a way to strengthen these ties. He elaborated on Saudi Arabia's efforts in statistical transformation, emphasizing the importance of accurate statistical databases for informed decision-making in line with Saudi Vision 2030. Dr. Diaa Awad Kazem expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the Iraqi delegation's eagerness to learn from Saudi Arabia's experience in population census. He praised the Kingdom's progress in statistical work and expressed a keen interest in enhancing mutual statistical cooperation. The meeting was attended by officials from both sides, and the visit will span two days. The focus will be on reviewing GASTAT's experience in carrying out the General Population and Housing Census (Saudi Census 2022), along with discussions on various aspects of statistical work, such as data collection, analysis, storage methods, and the dissemination of statistical data.

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) announced today, Monday, June 24, 2024, the results of international trade for April 2024, and published them on its official website at www.stats.gov.sa. The publication results indicated an increase of 12.4% in non-oil exports in April 2024 compared to April 2023. The results also reported a 1.6% increase in the value of national non-oil exports (excluding re-exports), while the value of re-exported goods saw a 56.4% increase in April 2024 compared to April 2023, reaffirming the Kingdom's pivotal role in international trade as a global gateway for international goods. The publication highlighted that "Plastics, rubber, and their products" rank among the most important non-oil export goods, accounting for 26.2% of total non-oil exports, showing a 20.5% annual increase compared to April 2023, reflecting the care for the promising Saudi economy and its diverse sectors. Moreover, the results of the publication showed an increase in the ratio of non-oil exports (including re-exports) to imports in April 2024, reaching 37.1% compared to 32.6% in April 2023; this was a result of the increase in non-oil exports by 12.4% and the decrease in imports by 1.3% during this period. Meanwhile, the value of merchandise imports decreased by 17.4%, and the trade balance recorded a 36.0% increase compared to March 2024.

The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) announced that the total number of pilgrims for the 1445H Hajj season amounted to (1,833,164) pilgrims, with (1,611,310) pilgrims arriving from outside the Kingdom through various entry points and (221,854) internal pilgrims, including citizens and residents.  GASTAT’s statistical results for this year's Hajj season revealed that the total number of male pilgrims, both internal and external, amounted to (958,137) pilgrims, while the total number of female pilgrims stood at (875,027) pilgrims. Regarding pilgrims coming from outside the Kingdom, GASTAT explained that the percentage of pilgrims from Arab countries reached (22.3%), while pilgrims from Asian countries, excluding Arab countries representing (63.3%) of the total. Additionally, the percentage of pilgrims from African countries, excluding Arab countries, comprising (11.3%) of the total, whereas the percentage of pilgrims from Europe, America, Australia, and other uncategorized countries constituting (3.2%) of the total. Regarding the ways of arrival for pilgrims from outside the Kingdom, (1,546,345) pilgrims arrived through air entry points, while (60,251) pilgrims arrived through land entry points, and (4,741) pilgrims arrived through sea entry points.  It is worth mentioning that the General Authority for Statistics relied on administrative records as the main data source for issuing statistical data and indicators for the 1445 H/2024  Hajj season. These records were provided by all relevant government and private entities responsible for serving the guests of Allah, following a unified model encompassing various elements. The Hajj Statistics Publication provides a breakdown of the total pilgrim number by gender, nationality, and way of arrival. On Sunday June 9, 2024, the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) released the report of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and National Accounts Indicators for the first quarter of 2024 via its official website www.stats.gov.sa. According to estimates, the real GDP witnessed a decrease of 1.7% compared to the first quarter of 2023, affected by a decline in oil activities by 11.2%. In parallel, both non-oil activities and government activities achieved growth rates of 3.4% and 2.0% respectively. Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted real GDP during the first quarter of 2024 increased by 1.4% compared to the fourth quarter of 2023. It is worth mentioning that non-oil activities maintained their growth rates, constituting 50% of the GDP at current prices. This aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to establish a thriving economy that showcases the success of vision programs and legislative reforms, while also demonstrating progress in major projects and national strategies.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation, reviewed opportunities for developing collaboration, and delved into various topics of mutual interest, particularly in the realm of statistical data. The two sides explored ways to strengthen mutual coordination in the field of statistical data. They also discussed the establishment and ongoing development of the statistical database, along with GASTAT’s strategies for statistical data, methods, quality assurance, and governance. Furthermore, they examined approaches to enhancing both human and institutional statistical capacities through a range of core activities offered by the Center. Among these activities, they highlighted the support program for countries and members, which aims to enhance statistical work and standardize and improve its quality. Aldossari pointed out that the recent years have seen considerable growth in statistical activities in the Kingdom. This transformation has been driven by statistical initiatives and projects led by the General Authority for Statistics. The objective has been to generate statistical data and indicators while continuously advancing the integration of diverse data sources. This has been facilitated by leveraging optimal data management infrastructure and governance practices, along with the consistent use of cutting-edge technology for ongoing enhancement. Its worth noting that the Statistical Center for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Member States serves as the official source for data, information, and statistics pertaining to the GCC countries. Its mandate is to enhance statistical and informational work for national statistical centers and planning bodies within the GCC countries. The establishment of the center was approved by the Ministerial Council for the GCC in September 2011, and its statute was adopted by the Supreme Council of the GCC in December 2012. The Supreme Council consists of the Majesties and Highnesses, Heads of the member countries: the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait.

The meeting held at GASTAT’s headquarters in Riyadh over three days, explored ways to enhance joint work in the statistical sector and opportunities for developing cooperation in statistical data. Various topics of mutual interest in the statistical field were also discussed, alongside gaining insights into Saudi Arabia’s experience in population censuses. The two sides discussed the stages of Saudi Census 2022 project, methods of calculating all statistical indicators and an introduction to the statistical database. They also covered the continuous development efforts that GASTAT is implementing in its statistical data strategy, aiming to provide updated statistical data to enhance joint efforts toward sustainable development goals. This includes ongoing advancements in indicator calculation methods, the exchange of statistical expertise, and the improvement of the quality of statistical data.

The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Council's General Secretariat.  The Saudi Health Council was represented by Nahar bin Mazki Al-Azmi, Secretary-General of the Saudi Health Council, while GASTAT was represented by Dr. Fahad bin Abdullah Aldossari, President of the General Authority for Statistics.  The memorandum aims to exchange support, technical expertise, and knowledge between the two parties. The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) launched the Comprehensive Agricultural Survey in all regions and governorates of the Kingdom. This survey aims to collect basic and structural data on agricultural activity in the Kingdom, covering both plant and animal sectors, with the goal of provideing an agricultural database on which decision-makers and policymakers can rely and use as a trusted reference, thereby aiding in the formation of agricultural activities plans and future goals. In the same context, the survey provides agricultural data to meet local, regional, and international statistical requirements. It also helps in the conduction of studies, analyses, and statistical comparisons in this field, in addition to supplying researchers, scholars, and interested parties with the necessary statistical data on agricultural activity. These data can be used in research and scientific studies to foster the advancement of agricultural activity in the Kingdom. GASTAT clarified that the Comprehensive Agricultural Survey will be implemented through telephone interviews, self-completion questionnaires, and field visits.
